New Delhi, September 1: India is hosting the first BRICS film festival started from today with a curtain raise event. This program will start from 2nd September to 6th September in Siri fort auditorium complex, New Delhi. During the press conference of BRICS film festival Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Venkaiah Naidu said that “BRICS Film Festival to explore areas of cooperation in the domain of cinema, culture & cuisine.”
Venkaiah Naidu also informed that the idea organising the BRICS Film Festival originated at the last BRICS Summit where PM Narendra Modi proposed a BRICS film festival and film awards. The festival would celebrate the excellence of cinema by rewarding filmmakers, actors, producers and directors.

The BRICS countries are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The aim of this film festival is to showcase the cultures of various countries through their films.  Moreover it will help to build good relations and go beyond political relations and to interact more with common people.

Notably, four films from each of the BRICS nations will be showcased at the festival. Apart from feature films, documentaries and films made by students of the participating nations will also be showcased at the Festival.

The opening film for the festival would be the world premiere of the Malayalam movie Veeram, directed by Jayaraj Rajasekharan Nair and starring Kunal Kapoor. The Festival will close with a Chinese film as China will host the next film festival.

Interestingly, for Food Connoisseurs, exclusive cuisines from all the BRICS nations would also be available at the food court of the venue. A craft fair is also being organised at the auditorium complex with all member countries putting up stalls with souvenirs and other properties for sale.

Four films to be shown in the BRICS film festival are as follows:

Brazil- Between Valleys, Road 47, The History of Eternity, They’ll Come Back. 

Russia- 14+, About Love, The Battle of Sevastopol, Very Best Day.

India- Baahubali- The Beginning, Bajirao Mastani, Cinemawala, Thithi

China- Book of Love, Go Away Mr. Tumor, Songs of the Phoenix, Xuan Zang

South Africa- Free State, Kalushi, Mrs. Right Guy, Tess
