NIA arrests one absconder in connection to circulation of fake Indian currency notes

Ranchi, September 20: National Investigation Agency arrested an absconder culprit from Jharkhand with charges of smuggling fake notes. Ashok Kumar Gupta, resident of District Giridih of Jharkhand was involved in an earlier case of smuggling of Fake Indian Current notes with value of over Ten lakh.
The case pertains to the recovery of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) having face value equivalent to Rs 10,01,000 from the possession of one Sushanta Sahu, a resident of Village Khalibereni, Post Office Khalibereni, Police Station Balimi, District Dhenkanol, Orrisa, on 26 May 2015.

The NIA took over the investigation of the case from the DRI by re-registering the same as RC- 09/15/NIA/DLI on 17.08.2015, under section 120B, 489B & 489C of IPC and section 16, 18 & 20 OF UA (P) Act, as per the orders of the Ministry of Home Affairs Government.

During the course of investigation, it was found that the arrested accused person and his associates were involved in the smuggling of FICN from Bangladesh and transportation and circulation of the same to various parts of India.

This gang has been found to have circulated the FICN in the States of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi. One Mozammel Haque of Bangladesh was found to be the supplier of FICN to this gang of FICN racketeers.

During the course of investigation, the NIA arrested four more accused persons in the case namely Uttam Kumar Sinha, Purshotam Kesri, Nishfal Mandal and Rameshwar Sahu. After completion of the investigation, the NIA filed chargesheet against all of them, on 11.03.2016 in the NIA Special Court, Kolkata.

During further investigation, one wanted accused Rubel Mia was also arrested on 7 August 2016 from Malda, West Bengal. Arrested accused Ashok Kumar Gupta used to procure the FICN from Malda, West Bengal and circulate the same in Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh.

He has been taken to Kolkata on Tuesday after seeking his transit remand from the Court of Duty Magistrate, Ranchi. He will be produced in NIA Special Court, Kolkata on Wednesday for seeking his police custody.
