Washington, Sept 21: Two members of US Congress have introduced legislation to designate Pakistan as a state sponsor of terrorism.

The bill was introduced   by Congressman Ted Poe from Texas, who is the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Terrorism, and Congressman Dana Rohrabacher of California, who is a strong supporter of the Baloch cause.

"I condemn the horrible terror attack against an Indian Army Base in Uri in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the death of 18 Indian soldiers," Senator Mark Warner (Democrat), Co-Chair of the Senate India Caucus said in a statement.

The terrorists who perpetrated this cowardly act must be brought to justice," he stated. He also expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the Soldiers who lost their lives in the attack.

Congressman Ted Poe (Republcian), who is Chairman of House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Terrorism, Non Proliferation and Trade, described the attack as "the deadliest assault" in Kashmir in over two decades.

"It is a reminder to democracies the world over that terrorism seeks to destroy peace loving societies everywhere," Poe said in a statement.

Condemning the attack, He slammed Pakistan for supporting many criminals like the ones who carried out terrorist attack, Poe said that the US stood firm in its "commitment to our friends in India".

Several Congressmen and Senators raised the issue of Uri attack. The introduction of  bill  ahead of  the  Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ‘s speech before the UN General Assembly has put Pakistan in a humiliating situation .

The bill Pakistan State Sponsor of Terrorism Designation Act, enjoins the US administration to make a formal call on the matter within four months of its passage.

The President will have to issue a report within 90 days detailing whether or not Pakistan has provided support for international terrorism. Thirty days after that, the Secretary of State will have to issue a follow-up report containing either a determination that Pakistan is state sponsor of terrorism.

Expressing  deep concern  over recent attack in uri Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP)-USA in a statement said that ,Pakistan has been pursuing for almost 30 years the state sponsored terrorism as its strategic policy to further its sinister designs across its borders.

Pakistan has became the epicenter of global terrorism. At present it is totally isolated in the global community and turning into a rogue state," said Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP)-USA.

The attack at Indian Army in Uri by Pakistanis should not be termed as another incident of terrorism by infiltrators, but it should be considered as an act of war by Pakistan against India. And India must respond to teach a befitting lesson to Pakistan," it said.
