New Delhi, September 28: Two accused persons are arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation, both residents of Village Kansanghi, District Gariyaband, Chhattisgarh in an on-going investigation of a case relating to alleged murder of Umesh Rajput, resident of District Gariyaband.
The accused have been identified as Shiv Kumar Vaishnav and Vikas Bansal, both residents of Kansanghi village. According to a CBI official Shiv Kumar had informed the local police about the journalist Umesh’s murder.
CBI had registered the case on February 11th 2015 on the orders dated December 27th 2014 of Hon'ble High Court of Chhattisgarh Judicature at Bilaspur, passed in Writ Petition No.6459/2011 filed by younger brother of the deceased. CBI took up the investigation of the case which was earlier registered against unknown persons vide FIR No.12/2011 U/s 302 of IPC & Section 25/27 of Arms Act at Police Station -Chhura, District Gariyaband, on a verbal information of a private person.
It was alleged that Umesh Rajput, resident of Village Hira-Batar, Police Station - Chhura, District Gariyaband, Chhattisgarh, was shot dead at his Chhura residence on January 23rd 2011. Rajput had written about corruption and exploitation of tribal communities in the region. A note threatening Rajput to stop writing about the above case was also found near the murder scene.
Both the arrested accused, were produced before Court of Special Judicial Magistrate for CBI Cases at Raipur (Chhattisgarh) and remanded them to four days police custody on Tuesday. Further investigation is continuing
