Bhubaneswar, September 6: Odisha was washed up into the colours of its traditional agrarian mass festival Nuakhai on Tuesday. The festival highlights the new arrival of rice of the season. The festival is celebrated just the day after Ganesh Chaturthi that is on Pancham tithi. Many traditional programmes were organized for the day to celebrate the occasion.
On this day, people offer ‘Nabanna’ (new rice) out of newly harvested paddy crop to the deity amidst beating drums, cymbals and sounds of conch shells. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished on the festival. “Nuakhai Juhar. Greetings to the people of Odisha on this special festival. May this festival bring more prosperity in the lives of farmers,” Modi wrote on Twitter. National BJP president Amit Shah also wished the people in Odisha. “Greetings to the people of Odisha on the auspicious occasion of #NuakhaiJuhar. May this Nuakhai bring happiness & prosperity for all,” tweeted Shah.
Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also greeted the people on the occasion. “May this divine festival celebrating hard work of our farmer community usher in progress & prosperity #NuakhaiJuhar,” tweeted the Chief Minister.
