Kabul, January 11: At least 30 people including civilians and security personnel are killed and more than 80 others are injured in twin bombings that took place in the parliament compound in the Afghanistan’s capital city Kabul on Tuesday. Immediately after the attack Taliban claimed the responsibility of the attacks.
Importantly, this was one of the deadliest bombing done by Taliban of several high-profile attacks on Tuesday. The first blast took place in Lashkargah, capital of Helmand province, at least 10 people lost their lives after a bomber stormed a meeting of local security officials and police personnel. The victims included civilians and military personnel.

Then second explosion occurred inside the Governor's office in Kandhar where a meeting was underway, killing at least 11 people. 18 others, including the provincial Governor and the UAE Ambassador, were injured. Some UAE diplomats were also among the wounded. All the injured were quickly taken to nearby hospitals.

According to sources, a district head of the National Directorate of Security - Afghanistan's main intelligence agency - was among the dead and an MP from western Herat province, Rahima Jami, was said to have been injured.

The Taliban said they were responsible for the twin bomb attacks in the centre of the city. "We planned this attack for quite some time and the plan was to target some senior officers of the intelligence agency," a Taliban spokesman said.

Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani vowed that all those behind the "criminal attacks" would be caught and will be punished. Ghani further said, "The Taliban shamelessly claim credit for the attack on civilians and they're proud of it."

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly condemned the terror attacks in Kabul. In his Tweet, the Prime Minister condoled the loss of innocent lives and said India stands with Afghanistan in its fight against terrorism.

Notably, Taliban since many years trying to take control on Afghanistan have done hundreds of blasts in which thousands of innocent people are killed and many are injured. Taliban basically targets Shia muslim areas.
