Sarawak, January 19: Top Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Ajay Jayaram on Wednesday registered a comprehensive win against their opponents and stormed into the pre-quarterfinals of the season-opening Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold in Sarawak.
Top seed Saina faced no difficulty in thrashing her Thai opponent Chasinee Korepap in women singles. Saina brushed aside Indonesia's Hanna Ramadini 21-17 21-12 in a 42-minute contest. The world no. 10 Saina will next face Indonesia’s Hanna Ramadin.
In the men's singles, sixth seed Jayaram, won two matches on a single day moving to round three. The World no 19, Jayaram fought hard first match defeating Malaysia's Juan Hao Leong 21-10, 17-21, 12-14 and then thrashed Saputra Vicky Angga of Indonesia, 21-9 21-12 in the second match. He will next meet Chinese Taipei’s Hsueh Hsuan-yi.
On the other side, in mixed doubles, a newly-formed pair of Manu Attri and Jwala Gutta defeated Indonesian combo of Lukhi Apri Nugroho and Ririn. Women's doubles pair of Aparna Balan and Prajakta Sawant saw off Indonesian combo of Aghisna Fathkul Laili and Aprilsasi Putri Lejarsar Variella.
Meanwhile, Prajakta along with her Malaysian partner Yogendran Krishnan also reached the next round of mixed doubles after defeating Hong Kong's Hee Chun Mak and Yeung Nga Ting.
