Nagpur, January 20: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi once said “the government’s job is good governance for everybody. My government will make policies; if you fit into it, come on board or stay where you are. We want good governance through a dynamic and seamless government.” Good governance is a result of planning, monitoring and evaluation of policies.
Speaking on the occasion of 24th Conference of Central and State Statistical Organisation COCSSO, Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda stressed upon good governance and how it should be strengthened for the goodwill country. He said that “availability of good data during the implementation process ensures the effective control on delivery of various public services and thus results in good governance.” COCSO was organized by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation in collaboration with Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Maharashtra government. The theme of the event was ‘Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare’.
Sadananda Gowda said that “the importance of statistics has been growing rapidly with the greater integration and inter-dependence of world economies, which is also evident from burgeoning data demands both at national and international levels.”
Focusing on the vital role that statistics play in good governance he said that “local level statistics have immense significance for understanding the socio-economic reality and thereby appropriate policy formulation. “In such a scenario, interaction between the Central and State Governments in a federal set up like ours becomes very important.”
Government takes n number of initiatives to implement and experiment to achieve good governance. Digital and smart methods are the new ways in today’s digital wave. For example online data collection of consumer price index, index of industrial production etc are certain smart methods. Minister also appealed farmers to take production of crops which have higher demand at international scale.
