Mumbai, Jan 25 : Appreciating the spirit of people from Uttar Pradesh living in Mumbai Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said "Our brothers of Uttar Pradesh have absorbed the culture of Maharashtra without forgetting their own, which is a great virtue”.
Ahead of the crucial elections of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Fadnavis was speaking at the function organised by the city unit of BJP to celebrate the Uttar Pradesh Foundation Day. Election to BMC will be held on February 21. North Indians form 28 per cent vote share in Mumbai.
Emulating Prime minster Narendra Modi’s Mobile phone address during the election rally at Uttar Pradesh Fadnavis, who was in Delhi to attend the meeting of Chief Ministers, addressed the gathering through mobile phone. In his 20-minute long speech, he urged north Indians living in Mumbai to contribute towards transformation of city.
Reaching out to the north indians for the upcoming polls in the city where Parties like Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman sena traditionally targets the North Indians BJP is trying to consolidate its traditional vote bank.
This cultural event is annually organised on January 24 here by Mumbai BJP general secretary Amarjeet Mishra, through his social organisation Abhiyan. "This is the 29th year that we are celebrating the Uttar Pradesh Foundation day." Mishra said.
On this occasion Union Minister of State HRD Mahendra Nath Pandey, Maharashtra Minister Vidya Thakur, Bhojpuri singers, including Padamshri Malini Awasthi, and actors were present on the occasion.
