Bhubaneswar, January 27: In order to boost the trade, international cargo services were launched today at Biju Patnaik International Airport. This move will push the export sector of Odisha on international level and hence will act as a booster.Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, inaugurated the launch and interacted with the people saying that “I hope with the new services, now we can reach the world with our products which can be directly sent to foreign destinations. Though the service was discontinued for some reasons in the past, we will be able to maintain it as lots of export units are lined up in the State.”
The launch of cargo services will cater the exporters to reach and tap markets in Middle East, Far East and European countries where the demand for seafood, agriculture, and handloom is more. Padhi said that Air Asia is most likely to begin these services to Kuala Lumpur in April this year. The Airport Authority of India has allotted the hall besides its domestic air terminal in order to give a startup to these services and has also agreed to become the custodian of international air cargo terminal.
These services will not only boost the economy of the country but will also help the exporters to avail the facility of dispatching the cargo from the city itself. The exporters feel that the service will be of highly beneficial for the industry.
