Kerala set to have women’s battalion with its ‘own headquarters’

Kochi, January 27: Breaking all the barriers women has secured to top in every field. Be it a sports or a business, they have shook the world with their skills and expertise. More to come as Kerala police force will have women’s battalion. Kerala is the state where the female ratio is higher than male which depicts the women empowerment equally.Kerala will have the women’s battalion with its headquarters at Kannur or Thiruvananthapuram, announced by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Entrusted with the duty of abiding the law and controlling those who break it, women battalion is set to serve the society. This would give a boost to the strength of women is the police force. The decision was taken to increase the women power by 15% in the police force.

The state government also decided to appoint 74 sportspersons as havaldars in the armed battalion. As per the decision, under the athletic (women) category, 12 sports women and under the athletic (male) category, nine athletes will get appointment. Under basketball, there would be four posts each for male and female players, while six posts have been earmarked for football, 10 in judo, 12 in swimming, 12 in water polo, and 12 under handball.

A total of 451 positions including one commandant, 20 women havaladars, 380 women Civil police officers, five drivers, one armor Sub Inspector,  20 camp followers and 10 technicians will be created for this, said an official after the announcement was made. The state where the sex ratio of females as compared to males is higher is all set to encourage women to join the police force across the nation and serve the country. ‘Give me the responsibility and not just the security’ is what the saying says all about this decision made by the Kerala.
