Melbourne, January 29: Serena Williams wins her 23rd Grand Slam Singles beating her sister Venus Williams in the final on yesterday. Serena won her seventh Australian Open crown with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over sister Venus Williams on Saturday night at Rod Laver Arena.Serena would also regain the number one position from Angelique Kerber when the WTA publishes its latest rankings on Monday. Serena now stands just one Slam away from matching Margaret Court’s record of 24 Slams while eclipsing the record of Steffi Graf with 22.Serena said of their achievements, dating back to her first major title win at the US Open in 1999. “We feel so fortunate to have this opportunity to be the ones that can do it. Venus and I work so hard, still to this day we work side-by-side each other at practice. We motivate each other. “Every time she won her match, I felt obligated to win, I've got to win, too. The motivation she gives me, it's really second to nothing. It's amazing.“Today, win or lose, I really felt like there was no way I could have lost today. If I had lost it wouldn't have been a loss because I know everything that Venus has gone through. I know how hard she works. In particular, before this tournament, she worked so hard. So I just felt like this was just a win-win situation for me.”Also, by defeating her sister Venus, Serena not only added to her already-significant Grand Slam collection but claimed her 72nd career title overall. Notably, Sania Mirza will be eyeing her seventh Grand Slam title when she plays the Australian Open mixed doubles final with her Croatian partner Ivan Dodig on Sunday.
