Nagpur, January 30: India registered a thrilling five-run win over England in the Second T20 Cricket match played at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha in Nagpur on Sunday to level the three-match series by 1-1. Chasing a victory target of 145 runs, England team could manage to put up only 139 runs for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah and Ashish Nehra’s superb bowling performance in the death overs led the path of victory for India. Jasprit Bumrah claimed two wickets conceding only two runs in the last over, helped the hosts contain the visitors’ innings despite some impressive batting performances.
Ben Stokes and Joe Root scored 38 runs each to prop up the innings, but rest of the batsmen could not maintain the necessary momentum. Ashish Nehra took three wickets while Jasprit Bumrah claimed two and Amit Mishra claimed the remaining wicket for the hosts. Bumrah was adjudged Man of the Match.
Earlier, England won the toss and invited India to bat first. India started the score aggressively but lost early wickets and scored 144 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. By the splendid batting performance of the gutsy opener Lokesh Rahul who scored 71 runs off just 47 balls and another useful inning of 30 runs by Manish Pandey. Skipper Virat Kohli also added quick-fire 21 runs at the beginning of Indian innings. But it was Indian bowlers who made the difference.
Notably, England won the first match in Kanpur. This was India’s 47th win in T20Is, the 5th-most; they went past Australia’s 46. This was also India’s 27 win in Asia, 11th at home, 4th against England and 1st at Nagpur.
