Panaji, Jan 6: Incumbent Chief Minister Lakshmikant Parsekar finds a place in the first list of 21 candidates declared by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for Goa Assembly seats slated for February 4. The list was released by the state election management committee.
BJP spokesman Narendra Sawaikar said that the list has been sent to the parliamentary committee for approval.
The list includes deputy chief minister Francis D’souza, cabinet minister Dayanand Mandrekar, Dilip Purulekar, Mahadev Naik, Milind Naik and Alina Saldanha. Mowin Godinho, the former Congress MLA who joined the BJP last month, has been given candidature from Dabolim constituency.
He said that the list of the probable candidates was shortlisted by the state election management committee presided over by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. This list was sent to the BJP Parliamentary Committee for the final decision.
The BJP will be contesting 37 out of 40 seats leaving ‘proper’ candidates whom the party can support.
