New Delhi, Jan 7 : Terming the scrapping of the old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes as "historic" move by Modi goverment Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that only visionary leadership like Prime Minister Modi can think about such a path-breaking decision.
"The entire executive unanimously agreed that it is a historic step," Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State told the media. She was speaking on the second day of the Bharatiya Janata Party National Executive meet where BJP has passed the economic resolution on demonetization where Finance minister Arun Jaitley presented the resolution.
Stressing on the various announcements by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sitharaman said that the decision would help the poor and marginalised society to join in the mainstream development process by improving their life standard.
She further added that PM is well aware about the hardships faced by the Dalits, tribals and women due to cash crunch and government took best possible steps for mitigating the problem.
She further informed that a Special Investigation Team has been formed for probing the accounts of those holding black money. On global front government has worked on the various international treaties with many nations for exchange of information.
Giving a brief about the 'Benami Properties Confiscation Act, 1988' Sitharaman said that this government has brought the bill before a parliamentary Standing Committee in 2014 and notified it which provides right to confiscate benami properties.
