Don’t undermine mother tongue: Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu

Vijayawada Oct 3: In an emotional appeal underlining the importance of mother tongue for every individual Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said that everybody should give due respect to their respective mother tongues. Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony Naidu urged all not undermine the significance of various regional languages.

Citing an amazing example, the Vice President said, Neither Chandrababu, nor Venkaiah Naidu, and not even Prime Minister Narendra Modi studied in English medium,". He further mentioned that there is no restriction on learning other languages but at the same time one must pay attention to the mother tongue.


Appreciating the move of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu where state government is planning to introduce Telugu as a mandatory up to tenth standard Naidu mentioned that other Chief Ministers should follow the policy of two Telugu states. He requested Chandrababu to roll out the decision from the next academic year itself.

The vice president also suggested that all companies, shopping malls, hotels and commercial spaces in the state must display their names in Telugu along with English. "Add names in English, Hindi or Chinese, but mother tongue is a must," Naidu said.
