Mumbai, October 7: The relatives of the victims in the Elphinstone Road railway station stampede were given compensation of Rs. 1.36 crore by the Western Railway (WR). The foot overbridge stampede took lives of 23 people and 37 people were injured.
On Friday an official said that WR has disbursed 28.65 lakh rupees in cash and the remaining amount is disbursed in a cheque for emergency expenses.
The Officials in their statement said that every required assistance is given to the relatives of the victims and also to the injured passengers in claiming the compensation. At the Churchgate, headquarter of WR a help desk cell has been set up.
The stampede on the 77-inch narrow foot overbridge which connects Elphinstone Road railway station to Parel station occurred on September 29. In which 23 people were dead and 37 were injured. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had announced 5 lakh rupees to the relatives of each of the deceased, 1 lakh rupees for the seriously injured and 50 thousand rupees for those with minor injuries.
