Srinagar, November 14: Multiple factors including demonetization, NIA raids and action against top terrorist commanders were responsible for the change in the situation in the Jammu and Kashmir as there has been a 90 percent dip in incidents of stone-pelting in the valley. This was said by Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir SP Vaid on Sunday while talking to media.

DGP SP Vaid said that there has been a 90 percent dip in incidents of stone-pelting in Kashmir Valley+ this year as compared to the last year and further credited the people of Kashmir for the improvement in the situation. He also added that multiple actors including demonetization, NIA raids and action against top terrorist commanders were responsible for the change in the situation in the Jammu and Kashmir.

The Director-General of Police also said that it was normal to witness 40-50 incidents of stone-pelting per day last year. “But this year, there is more than 90% fall in stone pelting incidents in Kashmir Valley and it’s a huge success,” he added.

SP Vaid further asserted that there are weeks when there is not even a single case of stone pelting registered while in 2016 at least 50 incidents were registered. He further noted that there was a huge change in people’s mood and the law and order situation in Kashmir has improved immensely.

DGP Vaid said NIA raids were not alone responsible for a drop in stone-pelting incidents."There are many factors responsible for the improvement in the law and order situation and decrease in stone pelting. The impression that NIA raids have only improved the situation, I would not agree to it", the DGP added.

The police chief further stated that there has been an improvement of the situation in Kashmir due to demonetization, the arrest of terror supporters and increase in political activity. "There was no single factor responsible but all of them were instrumental in a dip in stone-pelting incidents in Kashmir,” he added.

DGP said the “main factor and action against top commanders” may have also helped. “Most of the top leadership of Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba has been neutralized. I think roughly 170 militants have been eliminated this year,” he said.

During the press conference, DGP Vaid also gave credit to the resumption of political activity. The police chief said that there has been a tremendous success as far as "operation allout" is concerned. He also lauded the efforts of officers and jawans working in the fields. There is very good coordination among police, Army and other security agencies", he concluded.

Also lauding the coordination between security forces, DGP SP Vaid said that there was very good coordination between the police, Army and other security agencies and claimed that "most of the top leadership of Hizbul and LeT had been neutralized" except a few odd ones.
