Harare, November 16: Though Zimbabwe military has denied any coup  African Union has commented the military takeover "seems like a coup". The military force of the country took over Zimbabwe’s state television early Wednesday. The African Union has called on the military to halt their actions and restore constitutional order.

The army said those criminals are causing social and economic suffering in the country. The military said the situation will back to normalcy as soon as they achieve their goal “to pacify the destabilizing situation, to remedy the country’s suffering.” Military also assured the President is safe.

The President is still under house arrest.South African President Jacob Zuma also sent an envoy to hold discussions with the military and Zimbabwean President Mugabe.

“I urge all stakeholders to address the current situation in accordance with the Constitution of Zimbabwe and the relevant instruments of the African Union, including the African Charter on Democracy, Elections, and Governance,” AU Commission chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat said.

The tension escalated after Zimbabwe President sacked his deputy, Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa last week. The main controversy is surrounding grace Mugabe, the 52 years old wife of President Mugabe. From 2014 she emerged as the probable political successor of President. Back in 2014, she became head of the ruling party’s women’s league. The main challenge for her being President was former vice president Mnangagwa. A feud between those two leaders was also known to people.
