3 IITS, IISC Bangalore secure positions in top 20 BRICS university chart of QS survey

New Delhi, November 23: Indian Institute of technologies never disappoint when it comes to any university ranking charts. Again three IITS along with Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has acquired places in top 20 varsities in BRICS countries, according to the latest QS Rankings. The institutions have been chosen in top 20 among 300 universities across India, China, Russia, South Africa, Brazil.

 

The QS BRICS University Rankings 2018 feature 300 top universities from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The BRICS ranking is compiled using eight different indicators, including the ratio of faculty to students, the proportion of academic staff with a Ph.D. and the institution’s reputation among academics and employers.

IIT Bombay, IISC Bangalore has acquired 9th and 10th rank. IIT Delhi and IIT Madras have been placed in 15th and 18th position. Other than these four institutions, Delhi University, Calcutta University, Jadavpur University, Mumbai University have been placed among top 100 universities in BRICS region. China has secured most positions in top 10 chart. Tsinghua University, Peking University and the Fudan University of China have secured the top three ranks.

"Role of ranking in terms of students getting to know about the institutions cant be negated, but also sometimes overplayed. Rankings are relevant for institutions and most importantly because of the rankings what happened in India is that institutions have started to look at themselves," UGC Chairman VS Chauhan said at the unveiling of rankings.
