New Delhi, November 3: As part of their 10 days four-nation tour to Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and India the royal couple the Prince of Wales, Charles Philip Arthur George accompanied by Duchess of Cornwall, Camella Parker Bowels will be on a 2-day visit to India on Wednesday.
The Prince is scheduled to meet the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with an aim of strengthening the bilateral relations between both the nations and will also discuss the wide range of issues including that of the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which will take place in April 2018 in the UK, Climate Change, Sustainable Development Goals, Economic cooperation etc.
The Prince of Wales has visited India eight times before this visit. The eight visits were in the year 1975, 1980, 1991, 1992, 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2013 respectively. This will be his 9th visit to India.
Trading between India and UK is about US$ 12.19 billion and also India is the 3rd largest investor in the UK and the 2nd largest international job creator in the UK. For the period April 2000 – June 2017, UK is the 3rd largest inward investor in India, with a cumulative equity investment of US $24.37 billion
The India Diaspora in the UK is one of the largest ethnic minority communities in the country, contributing 6% of the country’s GDP and with the 2011 census recording approximately 1.5 million people of Indian origin in the UK equating to almost 1.8 percent of the population.
