Shimla, November 5: After the Election Commission announced the schedule of Assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh, the political activity in the state geared up and got more heated. CM Virbhadra Singh led Congress party seeking a vote on development basis without any support from high command. On the other side, PM Modi Modi held three massive rallies on Sunday in Himachal Pradesh’s Una, Palampur and Kullu where he strongly criticized Congress party. He said, Himachal Pradesh needs to be free from 5 Mafias - 'Mining Mafia', 'Forest Mafia', 'Drug Mafia', 'Tender Mafia' and 'Transfer Mafia'.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a public meeting in Kullu launching an attack on the Congress government said, “Congress and corruption are inseparable. Their leaders are out on bail & they are speaking about putting a check on corruption.” He further said that Himachal Pradesh needs to be free from 5 Mafias - 'Mining Mafia', 'Forest Mafia', 'Drug Mafia', 'Tender Mafia' and 'Transfer Mafia'.
PM Modi also said that for 70 years, Congress ruled the country but they were only involved in corruption, spreading lies, casteism and nepotism. “Entire world is looking at India with renewed hope & the credit for it goes to the 125 crore Indians,” PM Modi added.
The Prime Minister said, “For Congress, it is never 'Dal Se Bada Desh'. For them, only their party's interest comes first.” PM Modi further noted that the aim of the centre is on enhancing infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh so that it boosts tourism in the state. He said, “Himachal needs a double engine for development. One, a BJP led government at Centre and the other a BJP government in the state.” In the end, PM Modi urged people to elect a BJP government with a 3/4th majority in these elections.
Public Meeting at Palampur, Himachal Pradesh:
During a public meeting at Palampur in Himachal Pradesh PM Modi said that these elections are not about who will form the government or who will become the Chief Minister, but are about transforming lives of people in the state.
Lauding the work of Shanta Kumar and BJP’s CM candidate Prem Kumar Dhumal PM Modi said, “Shanta Kumar took up herculean task of laying water pipelines while Dhumal’s contribution towards promoting tourism in Himachal Pradesh is well known.” Slamming Congress party in the rally PM Modi said, “Corruption is the only identity of Congress party.”
The Prime Minister also asserted that people of Himachal Pradesh have decided to teach a lesson to those who have cheated them. Taking a dig at Congress party PM Modi said, “Welfare of people has never been a priority for the Congress party.” “Congress is using all possible means to blame us but our fight against black money and corruption will continue,” the Prime Minister noted.
PM Modi on the occasion promised that the BJP government in the state will fulfil the aspirations of poor and neo-middle class. “Our initiatives are aimed at strengthening and empowering them,” PM Modi added. In the end, PM Modi urged people and especially women of Himachal Pradesh to turn out in large numbers and vote for the BJP on 9th November.
Public Meeting at Una, Himachal Pradesh:
PM Modi said, “I have never seen the enthusiasm that I am witnessing this time in Himachal Pradesh during elections. This is a clear indication that people want change.” Launching attack on the Congress government, PM said that People of Himachal Pradesh have decided to teach a lesson to the Congress in these elections. Now, these elections have become one-sided in Himachal Pradesh, Congress has run away from the battlefield.
Also, PM Modi took potshots at former PM Rajiv Gandhi's statement that one rupee ends up as 15 paise when it reaches villages. He said Rajiv Gandhi was such a doctor who diagnosed the problem of corruption but did not do anything about it. He added that he has made sure that the whole of 100 paise now goes to the pockets of the poor.
Addressing the huge gathering, the Prime Minister said that ours is a government devoted to serve the people. The money we release, we ensure it is completely utilized for people's welfare. Prime Minister Modi affirmed that the Centre’s agenda is to end corruption and ensure the welfare of poor and marginalized people. “Ours is a government devoted to serve the people. Also, in the end, the PM spoke about benefits of GST, he said that GST has immensely benefited the transport sector, truck movement between the states has gained pace.
Himachal Pradesh will vote for all 68 seats on November 9 and the counting of votes will take place a month later on December 18. After Goa, Himachal Pradesh will be the second state with 100% VVPAT coverage. The paper trail machines will be deployed along with EVMs in all the 7,521 polling stations, including 42 auxiliary polling stations at remote locations. The term of current Legislative Assembly ends on 7 January 2018.
