Refine controversial RK Nagar Assembly voter list: Madras High Court

Chennai, December 13: Responding to the plea filed by opposition party DMK regarding fake voters in RK Nagar Assembly constituency, the Madras High Court has directed all responsible stakeholder to review the existing voter list in order to ensure free and fair polls for the upcoming RK Nagar Assembly by-election slated on December 21.

Expressing displeasure over the negligence and alleged manipulation, the high court launched a scratching attack on public representatives and government agencies for allowing infiltration of more than alleged 45,000 bogus voters.

A Division Bench of Justices T.S. Sivagnanam and K. Ravichandrabaabu hailed the efforts of DMK officials for pursuing the highly important matter of public interest. The Judicial body directed officials to make all possible efforts to refine the existing electoral roll before the high profile electoral battle.

The RK Nagar will go to poll on December 21 and results will be out on December 24. All the mainstream political parties are also gearing up for the most anticipated by-polls after the death of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 2016.RK Nagar has sizable numbers of people from Nadar community, fishermen, and Christians. It has significant numbers Telugu-speaking people.
