Gandhinagar, December 17: Re-polling begins at six booths in four assembly constituencies in Gujarat on Sunday where voting took place in the second phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections on Thursday.

The assembly constituencies including Chhaniyana-1 and 2 polling booths in Vadgam, Viramgam-27 booth in Viramgam, Nava Naroda in Daskroi and Nhara and Sankrada booths in Savli are having re-polling.

Earlier, the Election Commission cited technical reasons for the decision, and votes recorded on Thursday in the electronic voting machines at two booths each in the Vadgam and the Savli constituencies and one each in Daskroi and Viramgam are now void.

On the other side, the Election Commission also said that the votes from 10 booths will also be counted using the voter-verified paper audit trail because election officials at those polling stations forgot to remove the votes recorded by the machines during a mock drill. “Also, there would be random counting of VVPATs at a booth each in every constituency when votes would be tallied across the state on December 18,” the EC added.

Importantly, Polling was held in 93 constituencies across 14 districts of North and Central Gujarat in the second and final phase. The first phase of polls had concluded on December 9 which registered 68.1 percent of voting. Results of the Gujarat Assembly elections will be declared on Monday.
