Washington, February 10: U.S President Donald Trump on Thursday night called on Chinese President Xi Jinping and vowed to deepen the bilateral relations and also agreed to honour "One China" policy. Notably, this is the first conversation between both the presidents after Donald Trump came into the power.
A White House statement said that both the leaders had a detail phone conversation on numerous topics. "President Trump agreed, at the request of President Xi, to honour our 'one China' policy," the statement said. "Representatives of the United States and China will engage in discussions and negotiations on various issues of mutual interest." "They also extended invitations to meet in their respective countries. President Trump and President Xi look forward to further talks with very successful outcomes," the statement said.
On the other side, Beijing also released a statement and said Chinese President Xi Jinping appreciated his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, for stressing that the U.S. government adheres to the one-China policy. China will work with the United States to enhance communication and cooperation so that bilateral ties can advance in a sound and stable manner and yield more fruits to benefit the two peoples and people of all countries in the world, Xi said according to the statement.
According to the statement released by Beijing, Trump said he fully understands the high significance of the U.S. government's pursuit of the one-China policy, adding that the U.S. government adheres to the one-China policy. Notably, the call was described as cordial with both leaders expressing best wishes to their peoples.
Importantly, Trump after becoming President of U.S has already had phone conversations with more than a dozen foreign leaders in order to strengthen the ties.
