Bengaluru, February 11: Defending champions India on Friday defeated Sri Lanka and entered into the finals of T-20 World Cup for the blind at Lal Bahadur Stadium in Bengaluru. Notably, India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the first semi-final. This is India's ninth win in 10 games. Their only defeat was a 7-wicket loss against Pakistan.
India won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first. India dismissed Sri Lanka for 174 in 19.2 overs. Sri Lanka tried to push the scoring run-rate through Suranga Sampath (49 off 37 balls) and Chandana Deshapriya (42 off 35 balls), but found it hard against a strong Indian bowling unit. Ranbir Panwar and Sunil were the home team's best bowlers, picking two wickets each and Ajay and Golu Kumar picked one wicket each. India's outstanding fielding restricted Sri Lanka's score as they effected four run-outs in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Lal Bahadur Stadium.
In reply, India chased down the target in just 13 overs. India put up a superlative batting performance, as Sri Lankan bowlers found it difficult to contain the openers. They gave away only nine extras, but had the little answer against the stroke play of Prakash and Ajay. J.Prakash scored unbeaten 115 for India to which he was adjudged as Man of the Match.
The second semi-final of the tournament will be played between Pakistan and England on Saturday at the same venue. India will take on the winner of tomorrow's semis in the final on Sunday at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Importantly, the Blind T20 World Cup 2017 began on January 30. India was the winner of the inaugural season. Apart from India, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies are participating.
