New Delhi, Feb 15: President Pranab Mukherjee extended his greetings and best wishes to the people and the government of the Republic of Lithuania on the eve of its National Day.
In a message to Dalia Grybauskaite, the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Mukherjee said: “On behalf of the Government and the people of India and on my own behalf, it is with pleasure that I extend warm greetings and felicitations to Your Excellency and to the people of the Republic of Lithuania on the occasion of your National Day.”
“Our nations have always shared warm and cordial relations. I am confident that our two Governments will work together to further strengthen our close ties in the years ahead,” he added.
The eastern European country celebrates its National Day in the recognition of the ratification of the “Act of Reinstating Independence of Lithuania” by the Council of Lithuania on February 16, 1918. This act proclaimed the restoration of an independent and republic state, governed by democratic principles, with its capital as Vilnius.
On this occasion, President Mukherjee also conveyed his best wishes to the Grybauskaite for her “good health, well-being, and also for the progress and prosperity of the people of the Republic of Lithuania.”
