Lucknow, February 15: Polling is also underway for the second phase of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Voting is taking place for 67 constituencies spread over 11 district of western UP in this phase. 24.04 percent voting recorded in first four hours of the second phase. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the people of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to participate in the polls. The polling which began at 7 AM will continue till 5 PM.
Election Commission Said that 721 candidates 82 women and one third gender are in the fray in UP polls. Over 2.28 crore voters, will exercise their franchise in this phase. The districts going to polls in the second phase are Saharanpur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Sambhal, Rampur, Bareilly, Amroha, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur-Kheri, Shahjahanpur and Badaun. Elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polling.Election Commission has deployed 105 companies of Central Para Military Forces, 22 thousand personnel of state police and about 17 thousand Homeguards to ensure free, fair and peaceful election in Uttar Pradesh. With a view to smooth conduct of polling, the State Electoral Commission divided the state into 1 thousand 309 sectors with deployment of 219 zonal magistrates. Meanwhile, the Excise Department and the Police have jointly recovered large quantity of liquor and unaccounted cash since the imposition of model code of conduct.Earlier, Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked the people of Uttar Pradesh to vote for ending what he called anarchism in the state. Speaking at a rally in Kanpur Dehat on monday, he said, if BJP forms the government, loans of small farmers will be waived off. Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, senior party leader and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley alleged that SP government has institutionalised crime in the state where no one is safe.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav addressed four rallies in Farukkhabad Yesterday where assembly elections are going to be held in the third phase. He refuted the allegations of increased crime rate in the state and said that during his tenure, more development has taken place.
Meanwhile, In Uttarakhand, voting is taking place for 69 of the 70 assembly seats. A total of 628 candidates are in the fray for the single phase polling in the hill state. Polling in Karnprayag constituency has been rescheduled for the 9th of next month following the death of a candidate.
