Chennai, February 16: As Sasikala got convicted on Tuesday under disproportionate assets case Edappady K Palaniswamy, a loyalist of AIADMK general secretary V Sasikala, was elected the Legislature Party leader, in order to take over the post from her.Edappady K Palaniswamy, met Governor C Vidyasagar Rao on Tuesday evening to stake a claim to form a government. "I have sent a letter to Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao staking claim to form government. After Governor invites me, I will give him the official paper of my election signed by the legislators," said Palaniswamy. He has claimed the support of 123 MLA’s.
After the meeting with the Governor, "We are hoping that the Governor will call us to form the government at the earliest.” AIADMK spokesperson said that "we have the support of 125 MLAs and we have patiently waited for the Governor to call us. We sent him a reminder. There is no force that can stop us from forming government.”
Palaniswami, a known Sasikala loyalist and a five-time MLA, is the party's strongman from Salem district and currently holds the portfolios of Highways, Public Works and Minor Ports. He was minister in the previous Cabinet that was led by the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
Later, Sasikala left for Bengaluru, but not before performing what resembled oath-taking at Jayalalithaa’s Marina Beach memorial.
