Chennai, Feb 16 : After the unprecedented political development in the state of Tamil Nadu, senior leader and former Highways minister Edappadi Palaniswami has been chosen for the top job of chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Considered to be a Sasikala loyalist Palaniswami, will be the 29th Chief Minister of the state.
Edappadi Palaniswami took oath as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu along with 31-member cabinet in the presence of Governor C Vidyasagar Rao at Raj Bhavan. Palaniswami will have to prove the majority in the state assembly within the time frame of 15 days.
Palanisamy represents the Edapadi assembly segment from the Salem district. Before assuming the office of chief minister he was holding the portfolio of Highways & Minor Ports ministry.
Palanisamy has won the election to the state assembly four times, in 1989, 1991, 2011 and 2016. AIADMK party MLA's chose him as the leader of AIADMK Legislature Party after the conviction of V. K. Sasikala in the disproportionate assets case by Supreme Court.
