Mumbai, Feb 17 : PV Sindhu, the silver princess of India has broken into the top five of the BWF World Rankings for the first time in her career. Sindhu, with 69399 points, overtook Japan's Akane Yamaguchi (68149) to go fifth, as per the latest rankings released on Wednesday.
SainaNehwal, who is ranked ninth, is the another Indian in the top 10, while Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying continues to lead the rankings.
Sindhu's rise comes on the grounds of a stellarperformance in the Rio Olympics 2016, when she became the first Indian woman single player to win a silver medal. She also won her maiden Super-series title in China last November, before going down in the finals of the Hong Kong Open.
Sindhu, who hails from Telangana, is the youngest recipient of the highest civilian award, Padma Shri. Last month, she clinched the Syed Modi International Badminton Championships in Lucknow, helping her jump to sixth rank.
In the men’s singles rankings, Ajay Jayaram (18th) is at the top. He is followed by KidambiSrikanthat the 21st position, and by HS Prannoy at 23rd.
