Bengaluru, February 2: India hammered England by winning third T20 cricket match at M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday and clinched the series by 2-1. India defeated England by a huge margin of 75 runs and gave happiness to numerous cricket fans across the nation. Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s picking up 6 wickets in just four overs spell made all the difference and helped India to win this match.
Earlier winning the toss England invited India to bat first, but again came for the opening Indian Skipper failed to score and lost his wicket early, Suresh Raina (63, 45b, 2x4, 5x6) and MS Dhoni (56, 36b, 5x4, 2x6), coming in at No.3 and No.4, struck wonderful half-centuries and with a little bit of help from KL Rahul (22, 18b, 2x4, 1x6) and Yuvraj Singh (27, 10b, 1x4, 3x6), the home side posted a mammoth of 202/6 in 20 overs.
In reply, England were in with a shout when Morgan (40, 21b, 2x4, 3x6) and Joe Root (42, 37b, 4x4, 2x6) were at the crease. In the decider match, it was spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s which turned the whole match into India’s favour. Chahal picking up five wickets in just two overs triggered a collapse of England and lose their last eight wickets for just eight runs. Chahal took 6 wickets giving away only 25 runs in his 4 overs spell. Chahal was adjudged man of the match as well as the man of the series.
During the presentation ceremony, Indian skipper Virat Kohli lauded his team and said, "Coming back here after a while, it's been a long time since we played the IPL final here," Kohli, who plays at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, in the IPL for RCB said. "This was a match that demanded we play to our best. Even after losing all three tosses, we have won the series, similar to the Test series. "I think the guys showed a lot of character, which is why we won the series," Virat added.
Meanwhile, England speaker Eoin Morgan said, "Losing two in batsmen, especially when we were going so well, that really hurt us." Morgan too lauded Chahal’s bowling and said all credit goes to him. "India put a match-winning performance today and a performance worthy of winning the series. Congratulations to them," he added.
Notably, the win meant India won the T20 series 2-1, having won the ODI series as well with the same margin. Kohli's side beat England 4-0 in the five-match Test series. These victories, in the test, ODI, T20, proved to be an excellent example of cricket by the team India under the captaincy of Virat Kohli when hardly 2 months are left for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
