Raipur, February 22: Security forces on Tuesday eliminated seven Maoists in Abujhmad forests of Narayanpur area of Chattisgarh. It is believed that it was one of the biggest operations against Maoists in recent times. Heavy arms and ammunitions are also recovered from the slain Maoists.
After getting information about the presence of Maoists in the forest area of Narayanpur, security forces moved towards the target area for the operation. As soon as the Maoists saw security forces coming nearer to them, they opened fire which immediately led into the fierce encounter. Security forces retaliated with the heavy firing and successfully eliminated seven Maoists while several others were injured.
Notably, it was the joint operation police and District Reserve Group (DRG) who were sent from Dantewada's Barsu. Apart from the bodies of insurgents, two INSAS rifles, and four other weapons have also been recovered from the spot.
Special Director General of Police of the ANO, D.M. Awasthi, expressed the possibility of “around a dozen Maoists” being killed in the encounter. However, only seven bodies were recovered by the DRG team. According to Additional Inspector General of Police of the ANO, Devnath, three deceased were identified as CPI (Maoist) Bodhghat area committee member and LOS commander Nirmala, deputy LOS commander Somji and area committee member Nasik. “All three carried a reward of 5 lakh each,” he added.
Earlier in November last year, six Maoists were killed including three females by security forces in Dantewada district of Chattisgarh. Notably, Chattisgarh police have taken several steps to finish the Maoism in the state and state government is also administering a drive through which hundreds of Maoists have surrendered. The surrendered Maoists are now enjoying their life with several government schemes.
