Dubai, February 24: India’s tennis star Sania Mirza and her Czech partner Barbora Strycova on Thursday registered a comprehensive win and swiftly entered into the semi-finals of Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships following a straight-sets victory in their women`s doubles clash in Dubai.
In the quarterfinals, the top-seeded Indo-Czech pair defeated the American pair of Abigail Spears and Katarina Srebotnik by 6-2, 7-5. The match lasted one hour and twenty-eight minutes. For a place in the Final, Sania and Barbora will now take on the Russian pair of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.
The contest between both the teams was tough and thrilling. The Indo-Czech pair kept their aggression on while American pairs this time played a defensive game which led them to lose the match. However, it was not easy for Indo-Czech pair to win over Abigail Spears and Katarina Srebotnik but managed to earn early points which later favoured Sania and Strycova.
Interestingly, Spears and Srebotnik was the same team who stopped the Indo-Czech duo to reach the last four of the Qatar Open last week. Mirza and Strycova paired up in August last year after the Indian tennis star parted ways with Swiss player Martina Hingis and they tasted success soon after. They went on to win Cincinnati and Tokyo before reaching the finals at Wuhan and the quarter-finals of the US Open.
