Chandigarh, February 25: Acche din for construction laborers has arrived as Haryana government is now set to open canteens under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana to provide food at affordable prices to construction workers and poor people.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the Labour Department held here on Friday to review plans for the Haryana Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board to start canteens under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) which will provide the affordable meals. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who presided over the meeting, issued directions that final touches should be given to the scheme within a month.
CM Khatter said, similar schemes run in other states were also discussed and reviewed at the meeting to arrive at the best possible option. He said initially the scheme will be started for one year and non-governmental organizations and social organizations will also be involved in its implementation. According to this, the state government will provide breakfast and meals in subsidized rates.
Now Construction laborers in Haryana can now look forward to getting food at heavily subsidized rates of Rs 5 for breakfast and Rs 10 for a full-course meal. The mobile vans will be deployed to make food available to the poor at labor chowks.
