Lucknow, Feb 27 : With the rise of 0.3 per cent from the year 2012 around 1.81 crore citizens of Uttar Pradesh have exercised their franchise in 51 Assembly constituencies registering 57.36 per cent voter turnout in the fifth phase of polling in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Informing about the details of voting UP Chief Electoral Officer of UP T Venkatesh said, "57.36 per cent polling was recorded till 5 PM and the figure is likely to go up as several voters waited in queues to exercise their franchise".
During this phase leaders like Gayatri Prasad Prajapati from the Samajwadi Party, who is facing Amita Singh from Congress and BJP's Garima Singh in Amethi, from the Lok Sabha constituency of Rahul Gandhi were the centre of attention.
The districts like Balrampur, Gonda, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Bahraich, Shravasti, Basti, Siddharth Nagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, Amethi and Sultanpur underwent the polls in the 5th phase. The first four phases of UP polls this time saw voter turnouts of 64 per cent, 65 per cent, 61.16 per cent and 61 per cent respectively.
