Mumbai, February 4: Defending champions India registered a comprehensive victory against South Africa in the ongoing T20 cricket World Cup for the Blind at MCA BKC Ground in Mumbai on Friday. Notably, this is the fourth win of Indian cricket team in this tournament. India easily chased the target of 159 runs losing only 1 wicket. India achieved the target in just 13.5 overs.
Earlier, South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. South Africa scored 157/8 after electing to bat, with David Landry hitting an unbeaten 41-ball 42. For India, Ganesh Babubhai Mundkar took 2 wickets conceding only 14 runs in his 4 overs spell.
Chasing a decent total of 158 runs, Indian team played very aggressively. Half-centuries from Muhammed Farhan (59) and Jafar Iqbal (54) to romp home in just 13.5 overs. Farhan’s explosive innings came off just 35 balls and was laced with nine boundaries and a six while Iqbal was equally merciless to the Africans, consuming just 39 balls with a boundary to his name. Durga Rao’s 11-ball 19, including 3 boundaries was equally vital to the host’s win. Ganesh Babubhai Mundkar was named Man of the Match award for his beautiful bowling spell.
With this win, India is now placed at the third position in the league, standing behind Pakistan and Australia, who have won all their games so far. India has lost only one match against Pakistan and won 4 matches in the tournament. In the previous match, India beat England blind cricket team by 10 wickets Indore’s Holkar Stadium. The final of the tournament, for which the defending champion Indian team is a strong contender, will be in held in Bengaluru on February 12.
