New Delhi, February 4: Election commission of India took one more appreciated move towards the Election reform. A new machine known as Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) will be used for the first time on trial basis. The new machine will be a voter verifier machine. It will help voters in checking for whom he/she has voted.Goa will be the first state which will have Voter-verified Paper Audit Trail machine being installed along with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). VVPAT is a method of providing feedback to voters using a ballotless voting system. A VVPAT is intended as an independent verification system for voting machines designed to allow voters to verify that their vote was cast correctly, to detect possible election fraud or malfunction, and to provide a means to audit the stored electronic results.

The VVPAT includes a direct recording electronic voting system (DRE), to assure voters that their votes have been recorded as intended.

The election commission officials who have trained their staff on use of VVPAT machines have rubbished rumors that the secrecy of voting would be disturbed with this new facility. Earlier Election Commission removes 32.36 lakh voters name from the electoral roll in Uttar Pradesh. while overall strength of voters in UP stands at 14.12 crore. The total number of voters in the age-group of 18-19 years is 24.53 lakh. During the revision period, names of 20.57 lakh such voters were added. Similarly In 2014 Parliamentary elections, there were 1.96 crore voters from punjab. After the Aadhaar-based screening, nearly 4 lakh votes deleted from rolls as these were duplicate voters or people have died.
