Chandigarh, February 7: The Election Commission has ordered re-polling at 48 polling stations in Punjab. The repoll will be held on the 9th of this month from 8 in the morning untill 5 PM. The re-poll has been imposed due to technical hitches in the electronic voting machines (EVMs) in these polling stations.The Commission has asked the Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab to ensure that wide publicity is given about it in the media and also by beating of drums in the polling areas. The single phase polling for Assembly election in the state was held on the 4th of this month.
Re-polling will be conducted at 16 polling stations in Amritsar parliamentary constituency, 12 in Majitha Assembly constituency, 1 in Moga Assembly constituency, 9 in Muktsar Assembly constituency, 4 in Sardulgarh Assembly constituency and 6 in Sangrur Assembly constituency.
In Punjab Assembly pools 6688 VVPAT were used and 187 were replaced across 25 polling booths in Majitha and 10 each in Sangrur and Muktsar and few in Mansa. Over 75 per cent of Punjab’s over 1.98 crore voters cast their ballot for 117 assembly segments in Punjab.
The EC has also ordered a repoll in some polling stations of the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat for which by-election was held on Sunday (February 4) along with voting for 117 assembly seats.
