New Delhi, Feb 8: A three-member delegation of Catholic Cardinals called on the Prime Minister in his office on Wednesday to discuss regarding the visit of the Pope to India and kidnapping of Father Tom, reported AsiaNews.
The delegation included Cardinal Baselios Cleemis, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI), Cardinal George ALencherry, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church and Cardinal Oswald Gracias, President of the Conference of Latin Bishops.
The delegation urged the Prime Minister to take steps to secure the release of the abducted Christian clergy Father Tom Uzhunallil who was kidnapped in March last year in Yemen. About a month ago a video was circulated showing the Salesian priest, visibly suffering, ask for greater attention to his fate.
The Prime Minister has assured the delegation that his government is taking immediate steps and necessary action in this regard. AsiaNews reported that the Prime Minister showed an inclination towards the visit of the Pope to India.
In return, the Cardinals pledged their support to the Prime Minister and his government assuring that the Catholic Church and Christians in India would also support the government’s policy of the development of the nation.
