California, March 12: Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and her Czech partner Barbora Strycova registered a comprehensive win against Italian-Polish team of Sara Errani and Alicja Rosolska and advanced into the quarter-finals of the Indian Wells Masters in California.
The fourth-seeded Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova defeated Italian-Polish team in straight sets by 6-2, 6-3. The Indo-Czech pairs were unstoppable and completely dominated their opponents in the match that lasted for over an hour.
Meanwhile, in Men’s doubles, Leander Paes and his partner Juan Martin del Porto were eliminated from the tournament after losing their opening match in straight sets to Gilles Muller and Sam Querrey. Paes and del Porto lost 6-3, 6-4 in their round-of-32 clash at Indian Wells in a match last an hour. Paes and his Argentine partner never looked in their form and were outclassed by their opponents in all departments of the game.
Rohan Bopanna and his partner Pablo Cuevas on Saturday were eliminated by Serbian duo of Novak Djokovic and Viktor Troicki after losing the match 2-6, 6-3 (10-7). Stanislas Wawrinka, Tomas Berdych, Angelique Kerber, Venus Williams, Agniezska Radwanska and Simona Halep were among those who progressed to the third round.
Earlier, in the month of February Indo-Czech pair entered into the semi-finals of Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships but later they failed to make it for finals. Notably, Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova are one of the most successful pairs in the world of tennis who has won several tournaments.
