“Will never give up on singing” says Nahid Afrin after ‘Fatwa’ gets issued against her

Dispur, March 16: When a talent sprouts Ofcourse its wings fly high to achieve more success and blessings. But often there comes the time that many become the reason for cutting down those wings of hopes. Top Indian Idol contestant Nahid Afrin, a 16 year old, who has already secured her wings in Bollywood when she did a playback for Akira film, faced terrible obstruction.

The Muslim cleric group of 46 people issued a Fatwa against Nahid Afrin warning her to stop singing in public as it was against the “Sharia”. They reported that Nahid Afrin sang songs against Islamic State Terrorism. The 46 Muslim clerics distributed the leaflets across Hojai and Nagaon districts. It read “If anti-Sharia acts like musical nights are held on grounds surrounded by masjids, idgahs, madrassas and graveyards, our future generations will attract the wrath of Allah.”

The fatwa read that Nahid is scheduled to perform “against the Sharia” on March 25 programme at Udali Sonai Bibi College in Lanka, Assam. When police initiated the investigation, the mosque committees of central Assam’s Hojai and Nagaon districts, most of them failed to identify the names of Maulana (clerics) mentioned on the fatwa. Police said that Nahid and her family would be provided security.

When Nahid Afrin came to know about this she said that “My singing is gift of God. I believe it must be properly utilized; not doing so is ignoring God. I will never bow to it (such warnings) and never leave singing.” To her help even Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted and assured her the safety.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights also intervened to help Nahid Afrin. The commission has directed the administration to ensure that she is not stopped from singing for the public performance, which is supposed to be held on March 25.
