Srinagar, March 16: Security forces on Wednesday eliminated three unknown militants in a fierce encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara’s Kalaroos area. Heavy arms and ammunition were also recovered from the slain militants.
The encounter, which took place in Kupwara’s Kalaroos area of North Kashmir, has now come to an end. The identity of the terrorists is yet to be revealed. However, a minor girl was also killed during the encounter and a police constable sustained injuries.
According to the sources, security forces launched a search operation after getting a specific input about the presence of an unspecified number of terrorists in Kupwara’s Kalaroos area in North Kashmir. It was a joint operation led by the Indian Army and Special Operation Group personnel of Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF.
Soon after getting the input, security forces cordoned off the area and began the search operation. Seeing to the security forces getting closer to them, the militants hiding in the house started firing at the forces and the encounter began. Security forces retaliated with the heavy firing and eliminated three terrorists.
Giving details about the encounter, a police handout said that acting on a specific information, Kupwara police along with 41 RR, and 98 CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Jugtiyal, Hyhama in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kupwara.
“During the searches, militants present in the area fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated, ensuring an encounter. Three LeT militants were killed in this encounter. The identity of these militants is being ascertained. One police constable identified as Danish Ahmad was also injured in the encounter. He was shifted to Srinagar hospital for treatment.”
Notably, this encounter comes days after the Pulwama encounter in which two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists were gunned down. The two were identified as Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT)’s Jahangir Ahmad Ganaie and Mohd Shafi Shergujari. Meanwhile, India suspended cross-border trade with Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) on Tuesday after continued unprovoked ceasefire violation in Poonch by Pakistan.
Since Indian Army have conducted a surgical strike on seven terror launch pads on the intervening night of September 28-29 across the LoC and inflicted significant casualties on terrorists preparing to infiltrate from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), numerous incidents of cross-border firing and attack on security forces have taken place.
