New Delhi, March 17: Mammoth efforts and a well planned mission implemented by the Modi government has helped evacuating over 95,000 Indians stranded in war zones or due to natural calamities.
Indians were evacuated and brought back home from countries affected by war, internal strife and natural disaster during the last two years, the government said Thursday.
“95,665 Indian nationals were assisted, evacuated and brought back to India during the last two years,” Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha. Notably, Gen V K Singh played a vital role in shaping the evacuation missions from the unstable middle east regions and regions captured by the ISIS.
He said the government has been according highest priority to the safety and security of overseas Indians and all matters relating to them are being monitored at the level of the external affairs minister.
Singh said to ensure welfare of Indians seeking to go abroad for employment, the government has also launched an awareness campaign called ‘Go safe, go trained’.
