Punjab announces 33 percent reservation for women in all government jobs

Chandigarh, March 19: Punjab’s cabinet led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday gave a maximum joy to all the women of state and reminded of ‘Acche Din’ for them. Notably, Punjab cabinet has decided to provide 33 percent reservation for women in all government jobs.
The cabinet also decided to increase representation of women in the Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies from the present 33 percent to 50 percent. Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal said, "Punjab is the first state to give 33 per cent reservation for women in jobs, including contractual appointments, and 50 per cent reservation to them in Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies."

However, several other decisions were also taken by the cabinet for the development of state. Now onwards, there will be no auction of farmers, who have availed of loans but have not paid back, by any bank, including cooperative ones. The state will also come up with a new transport policy.

A series of decisions were also taken for the benefit of freedom fighters. The cabinet has decided to provide a house to every freedom fighter and 300 units of free electricity every month. It was also decided to provide one out-of-turn tube well connection to the freedom fighters and to exempt them from paying toll tax for state highways.

Interestingly, the Amarinder Singh-led Congress government assumed charge in Punjab on March 16 after the Congress swept the assembly polls on March 11, winning 77 of the 117 assembly seats.
