Washington, March 20 : Just as when everyone starts believing the US President, Donald Trump cannot get any weirder, he does something that redefines the boundaries of bizarreness.
On Friday, during a photo-op with the press at the White House, Donald Trump appeared to deny a handshake to the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Trump and Merkel had met earlier for a bilateral meeting in the Oval office where they are believed to have talked about strengthening NATO, fighting the Islamic State group, and resolving Ukraine’s conflict among other issues.
However, during the photo-op, when Merkel and Trump sat side by side, the latter seemed to not be bothered at all. With his hands locked between his knees and his eyes locked on the floor, Trump seemed to be totally oblivious of a photo session happening around him, so much so that even Merkel’s request for a handshake did not budge him and bring him to his senses.
Following this bizarre conduct of the US President, twitteratis have begun lashing out on Trump and mocking his behavior. One prominent among these is the celebrated author of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling. Having never been the one to mince her words, especially when it came to Donald Trump, Rowling trained her witty guns on him over this incident.
Rowling has previously defended her right to criticise the Trump regime, despite not being an American citizen, arguing, "When a man this ignorant & easy to manipulate gets within sniffing distance of the nuclear codes, it's everyone's business."
Trump's tensed up body-language during the photo-op and his refusal to shake hands with Merkel has not gone down well across the globe, as he was chastised for the incidents and many branded his behaviors as rude and "un-President" like.
"Send a good picture back to Germany, make sure," Trump jokingly told photographers, adding that his meeting with the Chancellor was "very good" and said the pair talked about "many things."
However, when asked to shake hands by reporters and photographers, Trump remained stationary. It wasn't clear if he heard the request, however, even after being prompted by Merkle, he did not budge. Merkel let it go with a smile on her face.
By contrast, Trump did shook hands quite interestingly and again, weirdly with the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe when they visited him in the Oval Office.
