Dubai, March 22: India’s star left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja on Tuesday topped the ICC's test bowlers rankings overtaking Ravichandran Ashwin in the latest list of bowlers. Notably, Jadeja past Ashwin after he took nine wickets in the third Test against Australia at Ranchi which was drawn.
However, spinner Jadeja has become only the third Indian player after Ashwin and Bishan Singh Bedi to top the bowling charts of ICC. Jadeja has been in top form throughout the series against Australia, having already claimed 21 wickets in the series, the most from either side. He was tied with Ashwin at 892 points before the start of the third Test.
Meanwhile, India’s one of the most dependable batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara too has reason to celebrate as his innings of 202 runs has helped him gain four slots to reach a career-best second ranking with 861 points.
Pujara replaced New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, also slipping behind Joe Root and Virat Kohli, who remained static at a fourth position. Top-ranked Australian captain, Steve Smith has reached a career-high rating of 941 points after scores of 178 not out and 21.
In the all-rounders’ rankings, Shakib Al Hasan continues to be at the top, followed by Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. The next highest ranked Indian in the batting list is Ajinkya Rahane, on the 17th spot. Apart from Jadeja and Ashwin, there are no Indians in the top-20 in the bowlers’ list.
