Acapulco, March 24: Indian shooter Ankur Mittal on Thursday bagged a Gold medal in the Men's Double Trap event at the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Shotgun event in Acapulco, Mexico. Notably, Ankur defeated James Willet of Australia.
Ankur finished with a tally of 75, while Willet managed 73 points to claim silver. China's Ying Qui won bronze with 52 points. However, Ankur won silver in the same event at last month's World Cup in Delhi last month where Willett had won gold with a world record score.
Ankur shot strong throughout the day, ending second in qualification with a score of 138 out of a possible 150. He also got the better off China S Ying Qi 6-5 in a shoot-off to decide second and third spots after both had finished their qualifying rounds on the same score.In the ensuing 80-targets final round, Ankur missed a total of five targets, including just two in his last 40 to equal the world record and finish on top with a score of 75.
Ankur after the award ceremony said, "I wouldn't call it a revenge," "James is the great shooter and winning and being defeated is all part of the game. The conditions in the finals range were perfect. Wind affected most of the qualification rounds, but in the afternoon it was not so strong."
