New Delhi, March 26: In its announcement telecom department said that all the existing subscribers of mobile services will have to go for Aadhar based re-verification. Also the government has made Aadhaar card identification necessary for a new license as well as for those seeking renewal.
All existing subscribers of mobile services will have to go for Aadhaar-based re-verification soon. The mobile subscribers (pre-paid and postpaid) through will have to go through Aadhaar-based eKYC process by February 6, 2018. Government instructed telecom operators to initiate the process regarding this.
Cellular Operators Association of India COAI said its members may meet next week to discuss the modalities of rolling out the verification process for the existing one billion-plus mobile phone users. The operator can re-verify more than one mobile connection in one service area through a single eKYC but not bulk connections.
In another move for making Aadhar mandatory to seek and renew license government aims to check multiple driving licences under one name in all the states. This rule is expected to begin from October this year, official sources said.
