Imphal, March 27: After Nongthombam Biren Singh was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Manipur, on Sunday while interacting with the media on Framework Agreement before departing for Delhi, he asserted about protecting the state’s integrity which is his top most priority.
While talking to the reporters he said that “the territorial integrity of the State will be protected at any cost as it is dearer than his life. This is the commitment of the government.” Biren Singh said while he was about to leave for Delhi to pay a courtesy call on President of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and other Central leaders.
Biren Singh also spoke regarding the protest against the appointment of legislator Asabuddin as the Parliamentary Secretary, he said that the people have elected him and there is nothing I could do since he is a bona fide Indian citizen.”
Despite assurances in public meetings by Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the framework agreement the central government had signed with the Naga group NSCN-IM last year, leader Thuingaleng Muivah claimed on March 21 that the agreement expects to fulfill the “Naga integrity”.
Unification of the Naga-inhabited areas of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh with Nagaland is a major demand of the outfit. Biren said that “As the Home Ministry has clarified the matter; there is no need for apprehension. He said that the territorial integrity of Manipur shall be protected and there is no doubt about it.”
